Unfortunately we started off the week with another frantic call from daycare about Gwendolyn. Seems she pitched another fit this morning and held her breath until she turned colors again... Wow, Mom and Dad are already quaking just thinking about the twins throwing “terrible-two tantrums” for sure!!!
Anyway, apparently Braelyn is the only one at daycare to figure out that Gwendolyn’s Place of Zen is easily reached once a binky is inserted (if you forgot, see the photo in our previous post and the concern in Gwen's face as Braelyn snatches her little green buddy). We know, it sounds pretty strange to say “Our child isn’t breathing so please stick this plastic apparatus in her mouth because it will make everything better.” But honestly, that’s all it takes. Just look at the joy in Gwen's face on today's blog picture... The girl just loves her some binky!!! Needless to say, when we got the call today and daycare explained what happened, it was concerning and obviously something that needed immediate attention... But since Gwen was literally diagnosed the last time this occurred with a temper tantrum there's that doubt in the back of your mind.
That being said, Mom took the afternoon off and is at home monitoring the girls the rest of today just to make sure there isn’t something out of the ordinary going on... In fact, Mom brought Gwen straight home and immediately hooked her up to her blood/oxygen monitor so that we'll know if she's having a desaturation... We obviously need to be cautions, especially given Gwenner's history!
Other than that, we are all doing fine. The twins are getting baptized this Sunday so the Castellano contingent is making the trip north from Florida. We can’t wait until Braelyn and Gwendolyn get to meet their cousin Ava for the first time!!! (On a side note, Dad can't wait for Sunday to get here also... but his excitement is related to that fact that he has an excuse to get two helpings on cake shoved into his tummy!!!)

I seem to remember similar episodes to Gwen's today expressed by her Dad, however, he made it all the way to 18 months before exhibiting these tendencies! Looks like Braelyn seems to be comforting her sister and protecting against any future binky pilfering. BTW, 4 people and a baby are NOT a "contingent" by Castellano standards.
ReplyDeleteLove you all & can't wait till Friday,
Nana
Here's to a joyous weekend for the Castellano and McKee families - you can bet that you will be in our hearts and prayers as your girls take this incredible step in their spiritual journey. I hope Sunday is a beautiful day for you all!
